Dix Hills Fire Department

The Dix Hills Fire Department is located in western Suffolk County, 40 miles east of NY City, in the township of Huntington. Founded in 1947, the Dix Hills Fire Department protects one of the largest fire districts in New York State, which covers nearly 25 square miles, and has a population of over 27,000 people. The community is composed primarily of 8,000 single-family residential homes, and is crossed by several major roadways, including Commack Road, Jericho Turnpike, the Northern State Parkway, the Long Island Expressway, and Deer Park Avenue.

It is the mission of the Dix Hills Fire Department to provide the citizens of Dix Hills, and all those who pass through it, the best service and protection available. The Department's approximately 175 volunteer members accomplish these goals through dedicated response and constant training.  Membership consists of approximately 90 firefighters, 75 basic and advanced EMT's, and a dozen Fire Police. The Department operates out of three fire stations, and typically respond to more than 800 fire and 1,600 medical emergencies each year.
