Dear Parents and Students:
While the use of technology can be an important tool both inside and outside of the classroom, we at Candlewood Middle School encourage face-to-face interaction between our students, faculty and staff. Those precious hours during school time are an excellent opportunity for children to “unplug” from the demands of social media, gaming and videos, and a great time for students to foster personal relationships with peers. Thusly, our school is only cell phone friendly before advisory and after the last bell at 2:40pm.
We have set some guidelines for cell phone use as a means to help our students manage their academic and social time while in school. Cell phones are not to be used in classrooms, the cafeteria, or the hallways. If seen, they will be asked to put the phone away. If the student refuses to put the phone away the student will be considered insubordinate and may be subject to a consequence. Some teachers will constructively use cell phones as part of their lesson plans with prior administrative approval. In those instances, we invite our students to use their devices under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
Other than cell phones, hand-held electronic equipment is never permitted in the building. If a student chooses to bring expensive electronic equipment into the school, including cell phones, the school is not responsible for those item(s), and is not liable for replacement of the item(s).
Thank you in advance for your commitment to assisting us in creating the best middle school experience possible!
