Future Business Leaders of America 2018

On January 19, 2018, thirty HSE FBLA students competed in the FBLA Spring Meeting S1 Competition at Hofstra University.  The students competed against students from Suffolk County FBLA chapters. The topics of the competitions encompassed an array of business topics.  The students competed in either a verbal presentation or an exam format.  Several students competed in two events.  There were 26 awards earned.  The following is a list of the HSE students who placed in their event:

DECA Regional Competition 2018

 Every year New York State DECA holds their annual Suffolk County Regional Competition, where business students from high schools across Suffolk County compete in a variety of business categories. The students competed against over 1,600 students from 26 Suffolk County High Schools. The Hills East and West DECA teams have always done well in the annual tournament, and this year was no exception. High School East had 50 Suffolk County regional winners. HS West had 41 regional winners and 18 honorable mention. All winners are eligible to move on to the New York State DECA Competition.

15th Annual Emerging Leaders Business Competition

The HS West and HS East business students competed in the 15th Annual Emerging Leaders Business Competition on November 29, 2017 at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY.  This business competition was sponsored by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce.  The competition challenged the students to think beyond the scope of the classroom and it gave the students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and capabilities in a business environment. The students had to create viable business solutions for existing businesses and demonstrate their knowledge through presentations in several business categories. The students competed either as a team of two or individually in the business events.  There were over 400 students from approximately 20 Long Island school districts who competed at this event.   Thirty-seven HSE students participated in the event.   Thirteen HSE students placed in their categories.  Four students earned first place awards, six students earned second place awards and three students earned third place awards. DECA NYS 2017 Competition

This year the HS East and HS West DECA Teams again traveled to Rochester to participate in the 2016 NY State DECA competition. The students competed in a variety of business tasks against every school in New York State. HS East had 4 students who were state champions and 11 top 10 winners. HS West had 6 student state champions and 10 top 10 winners.

Future Business Leaders of America 2017

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest career student organization in the world. Each year FBLA helps over 250,000 members prepare for careers in business. The mission of FBLA is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. FBLA programs focus on

14th Annual Emerging Leaders Business Competition

The HS East and HS West  business students competed in the 14th Annual Emerging Leaders Business Competition on November 30, 2016 at Saint Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY. The business competition was sponsored by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce. DECA Nationals 2016

Hills East DECA brought 4 students to the DECA ICDC International Competition in Nashville, Tennessee. Two students, Leah Pesso and Natasha Bajaj finished in the Top 10 in the World in their category, Business Growth Plan.


They both received 2 medals. Leah and Natasha competed against over 100 teams from around the world in Business Growth Plan. Congratulation to both of them and our DECA chapter.

“DECA offers a comprehensive program of competitive events based on the 

occupational goals of its student membership and on the activities of
chapters in high schools and postsecondary institutions. Competitive
events offered by DECA Inc. are replicated at the state or provincial
association level as well as at the chapter level."


The purposes of DECA's competitive events are:

  • to contribute to the development of skills necessary for careers in marketing, merchandising,
    management and entrepreneurship
  • to evaluate student achievement of the skills through careful measurement devices (performance
    indicators)
  • to provide constructive avenues for individual or team expression, initiative and creativity
  • to motivate students to assume responsibility for self-improvement and self-discipline
  • to provide a vehicle for students to demonstrate (via performance indicators) their acquired
    skills through individual or team activities
  • to assist students in acquiring a realistic self-concept through individual or team activities
  • to help students participate in an environment of cooperation and competition
  • to provide visibility for the educational goals and objectives of marketing education”
