Imagination Playground

The Signal Hill band strives to perform a variety of music that is fun and challenging for the students who participate in the ensemble. The winter concert is comprised of fifth grade students who participated in the program during their fourth grade year. In the spring, current fourth graders are added to the ensemble.

We rehearse twice weekly on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Students are highly encouraged to attend both weekly rehearsals as each rehearsal covers different content.

The goal of the Signal Hill Chorus is to provide an educational and enjoyable singing experience, which culminates in two evening school concerts, as well as day assemblies and a Sing-Along performance in December.

Our chorus is comprised of fourth and fifth grade students who enjoy singing and performing in a large group setting.  We rehearse once a week in the school cafeteria.  Students may choose either Monday afternoon or Friday morning before school for their permanent rehearsal day.  However, students must attend two rehearsals per week in the days prior to our concerts.

Design & Engineering

The goal of design and engineering club is to spark the imagination while challenging students to plan, design and construct using Lego Mechanics, Hydraulics, and WEDO construction kits. Students will solve engineering and design challenges while working as a team. The most exciting part of this club is sharing our design solutions with other schools in Half Hollow Hills at the Discovery Center to be reviewed by HHH science teachers.

  Math Olympiads

The goals of Math Olympiads Program are:

  • To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics
  • To introduce important Mathematical concepts
  • To teach major strategies for problem solving
  • To develop Mathematical flexibility in solving problems
  • To strengthen Mathematical intuition
  • To foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity
  • To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges

The school's Math  Olympians meet weekly for an hour. Club members explore a topic or strategy in depth, using Creative Problem Solving in School Mathematics (or other sources), or they practice for the contests, using nonroutine problems from Mathematical Olympiads Contest Problems for Elementary and Middle Schools (or other sources).

The highlights for students are the five monthly contests, given from November to March. No traveling is required.  These contests provide an incentive for students to intensify their study of math.

The Signal Hill orchestra is the stringed instrument performing ensemble of Signal Hill Elementary School. The group is open to students who have been enrolled in the weekly instrumental pull- out lesson program. The Signal Hill orchestra meets two times per week. There is a rehearsal before school at 8:20 a.m. and a rehearsal after school.

These rehearsals are in preparation for a winter and spring concert as well as school assemblies. The orchestra program is intended to give children the opportunity to learn to play a stringed instrument and to enjoy making music together.

Student Council

The goal of student council is to offer help to our school and community. The representatives of Student Council treat their classmates, teachers, lunch monitors, custodians, parents, principals and each member of the Signal Hill family with respect.

The Student Council coordinates many fund raisers and events for worth-while causes. We are constantly finding new charities and causes that we can bring attention to and help in any way possible. Student Council Representatives accept the responsibility of helping others. It builds character and self-esteem. The students gain a sense of pride by seeing those within their school and community being helped.
