The Department has discussed in depth the writing process at several meetings and we decided to focus on this process in order to produce better writers in a language other than English. LOTE teachers are encouraged to dialogue with English Language Arts teachers to discuss “best practices” in this area. Please note that students may be required to complete a composition/essay during a period and that the guidelines set forth are not always possible during this type of timed assessment; timed writing activities prepare students for local and State assessments. This document provides guidelines for LOTE teachers to use when a writing task is not expected to be completed in one period. Each teacher may handle this process differently based upon their knowledge of their students.
