DECA NYS 2017 Competition

This year the HS East and HS West DECA Teams again traveled to Rochester to participate in the 2016 NY State DECA competition. The students competed in a variety of business tasks against every school in New York State. HS East had 4 students who were state champions and 11 top 10 winners. HS West had 6 student state champions and 10 top 10 winners.

Future Business Leaders of America 2017

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest career student organization in the world. Each year FBLA helps over 250,000 members prepare for careers in business. The mission of FBLA is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. FBLA programs focus on

DECA Regional Competition 2017

Every year New York State DECA holds their annual Suffolk County Regional Competition, where business students from high schools across Suffolk County compete in a variety of business categories. The Hills East and West DECA teams have always done well in the annual tournament, and this year was no exception. High School East had 44 Suffolk County regional winners and 7 honorable mention. HS West had 35 regional winners and 7 honorable mention. All winners are eligible to move on to the New York State DECA Competition. Overall there were more than 1500 students competing.

14th Annual Emerging Leaders Business Competition

The HS East and HS West  business students competed in the 14th Annual Emerging Leaders Business Competition on November 30, 2016 at Saint Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY. The business competition was sponsored by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce. The competition challenged the students to create viable business solutions for existing businesses and gave the students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge through presentations in several business categories. The students competed either as a team of two or individually in the business events. There were 315 students from 18 Long Island school districts who competed at this event.  Ten HS East and five HS West students placed in their categories.

DECA Nationals 2016

Hills East DECA brought 4 students to the DECA ICDC International Competition in Nashville, Tennessee. Two students, Leah Pesso and Natasha Bajaj finished in the Top 10 in the World in their category, Business Growth Plan.


They both received 2 medals. Leah and Natasha competed against over 100 teams from around the world in Business Growth Plan. Congratulation to both of them and our DECA chapter.

Huntington Chamber of Commerce Competition 2015

The HS East and HS West business students competed in the 13th Annual Business Leadership Competition on December 2, 2015 at Saint Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY. The business competition was sponsored by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce. The competition challenged the students to create viable business solutions for existing businesses and gave the students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge through presentations in several business categories. The students competed either as a team of two or individually in the business events. There were approximately 365 students who competed from the following schools: Commack, Connetquot, Farmingdale, Garden City, Half Hollow Hills East, Half Hollow Hills West, Harborfields, Kings Park, Milliken Technical Center, Northport, Oyster Bay, St. Dominic’s, Syosset, Walt Whitman, Wantagh and Wilson Tech.  There were 13 HS East and 13 HS West students who placed in their competitions. There were six students who received first place, twelve students who received second place, and seven students who received third place.

DECA Nationals 2015

Three HS West and 2 HS East DECA students participated in the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida on April 25-29, 2015.  There were approximately 18,000 students who participated in this international conference.  
 
At the event HS West DECA students Amanda Bentz, Paulina DiFatta and Victoria Sacchetti received two medals in the category of Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan.   The HS West team competed against approximately 150 other teams.  The first medal that the HSW team earned was for being a finalist in the top 20 teams.  The students then competed for a second round.  This time the HS West students received a second medal for earning a position in the top 10 teams.

This is an amazing accomplishment and we are very proud of our talented students! 

 

DECA NYS 2015 Competition

This year the HS East and HS West DECA Teams again traveled to Rochester to participate in the 2015 NY State DECA competition. The students competed in a variety of business tasks against every school in New York State. HS East had 3 students who were state champions and 18 top 10 winners. HS West had 7 student state champions and 17 top 10 winners. The HS East Team also received a DECA award for growing membership for the 6th straight year.

“DECA offers a comprehensive program of competitive events based on the

occupational goals of its student membership and on the activities of
chapters in high schools and postsecondary institutions. Competitive
events offered by DECA Inc. are replicated at the state or provincial
association level as well as at the chapter level."


The purposes of DECA's competitive events are:

  • to contribute to the development of skills necessary for careers in marketing, merchandising,
    management and entrepreneurship
  • to evaluate student achievement of the skills through careful measurement devices (performance
    indicators)
  • to provide constructive avenues for individual or team expression, initiative and creativity
  • to motivate students to assume responsibility for self-improvement and self-discipline
  • to provide a vehicle for students to demonstrate (via performance indicators) their acquired
    skills through individual or team activities
  • to assist students in acquiring a realistic self-concept through individual or team activities
  • to help students participate in an environment of cooperation and competition
  • to provide visibility for the educational goals and objectives of marketing education”
