The reading lists for elementary and secondary ELA include picture storybooks, traditional tales, chapter books, modern classics, young adult literature, and award-winners recommended by teachers, Half Hollow Hills community children's librarians, The New York Public Library, The State Education Department, and booksellers such as Barnes and Noble, Book Revue (which offers a 10% discount on HHH summer reading selections), and Scholastic!
Please check these lists for books you can read during the summer months or anytime you want to do independent reading.
How to Create Your Own QR Code Bookmark
*This option is allowable for up to three of the six required books
Step 1: Compose and type (using a word processing program) a summary/review of the book.
Step 2: Use Audacity (or any other recording software) to record your summary.
Step 3: Find a picture of your book.
Step 4: Upload the three items above to iTunes, SchoolTube, or any other site that will create a URL.
Step 5: Copy and paste the URL it creates into “QRstuff.com.”
Step 6: Download your very own QR Code and make your bookmark.
Tips for Composing Your Response:
- Include your first name, grade, school, book title, author, and genre
- Introduce the story or topic
- Tell about important parts of the book (fiction/characters, plot) or main ideas (nonfiction)
- State your opinion of the book and your reasons for that opinion
